What is sfouf?


Sfouf is an arabic word which means rows or lines. It named like that because it describes the way we cut the cake in lines.





Origin of sfouf:


Sfouf is a lebanese semolina turmeric cake . No egg included for this recipe. also this recipe made of almond milk which is 100% vegan.



















Are you a chocolate person? I am , I love chocolate! 


Chocolate is powerful, energetic flavor. SWEET, HEAVEN.


Why not combining chocolate with the sfouf and makes it marble, Semi-yellow Semi-chocolate! I always like to make things different, like to change recipes, making something new.

Semolina is the hard grains left after the milling of flour, used in puddings and pasta, and also couscous. I know some people using only flour for this recipe, but adding semolina to this cake will give it a nutty texture.


Semolina is a base ingredient for most of  lebanese dessert, like nammoura or basbousa, layali lubnan, halawet b jben and even knefi.

The most amazing chocolatey Sfouf recipe  is finally here topped with lots and lots of nuts,sesame, pine nuts, walnuts and almonds. This is the perfect chocolate sfouf you’ve been dreaming of.


Yalla let’s get straight into the recipe.





Ingredients:



  • 1 cup flour

  • 2 cups semolina

  • 1 to 1 1/2 cup sugar

  • 1/2 cup oil

  • 2 cups almond milk

  • 1 tsp orange blossom water

  • 2 tsp baking powder

  • 1 tsp turmeric 

  • 2 tbsp cocoa

  • 2 tbsp of almond milk

  • Nuts (walnuts, almonds, pine nuts and sesame)

  • Sesame butter 

  • 1/4 cup semi-dark- chocolate chips

  • 3 tbsp almond milk

  • 1 tbsp oil














Direction



  1. Preheat oven to 350 degree F. Grease the pan 20X20 cm with tahini ( sesame butter).

  2. In a large bowl, using mixer or blender add the sugar and oil and mix them until they are white creamy. add the almond milk and orange blossom water. Mix well  until combined.

  3. In a medium bowl, sift the flour, baking powder and turmeric , add the semolina and mix well using fork. Add them gradually to the milk moxture and whisk.

  4. Pour 3/4 the batter into the pan. Now add the cocoa and 2 tbsp of almod milk and mix well using fork, and add them to the pan.

  5. Take a chopstick or fork to create a swirl all through the batter.

  6. Garnish the nuts on the top of the cake nd bake in the preheated oven for 30 mins or until well done.


  7. microwave the chocolate chips for 30 sec or so add the oil and almond milk, whisk them . Microwave them again for 15 sec.

  8. decorate your cake with chocolate sauce.
