Abbas Cookies(Kaak Al-Abbas) are Lebanese cookies made in Ashura. they share them out with friends and family after "Majlis Al Aaza". Ashura is the tenth day of Muharram in the Islamic calendar.
Kaak Al-Abbas was named in remembrance Abou Fadl Al-Abbas, Imam Hussein's half brother, who was murdered while collecting water from the Euphrates River for his niece, Sukiana (Hussein's Daughter). While Hussein camp I Karbala was under siege. The camp then ran out of water and food.
These cookies are made of flour, milk, oil, sugar and spices. They are so delicious and rich.
I've tried a lot of recipes for Abbas Cookies and this one is the Number 1. I'll be sharing with you the recipe and also Step By Step Instructions.

Abbas Cookies (Kaak Al-Abbas) Recipe
Ingredients
- 4 cups and 4 tablespoons of flour
- 1 1/2 sugar
- 11/4 cup milk
- 3/4 cup oil
- 1/2 tsp yeast
- 1tso baking powder
- 1 tsp black seeds
- 1 tsp turmeric
- 1 tbsp. da2et kaak ,OR spices: 1/2 tsp ginger-1/2 tsp cinnamon ,1/2 tsp nutmeg,1/2 tsp ground anise

Step By Step Instructions
Step one: Make the dough
In a medium-microwave-safe-bowl, add milk, sugar and turmeric,microwave them about 1-2 mins , stir well until sugar is completely dissolved.
Using another medium bowl, mix with a wire whiskthe dry ingredients, flour,yeast,baking powder,spices,black seeds,sesame seeds. Add oil and mix using hands.
Add the dry ingredients to the milk mixture and knead until a dough forms. If the dough is sticky, add additional flour, 1 tablespoon at a time ,until the dough comes together in a solid ball.
Let it rest for 1-2 hours.

Step two: Roll out the dough
On a lightly floured work surface, roll out the dough 2 inches thick. cut out the dough using round cookie cutter and shape with a smaller cookie cutter ( I used water bottle cap).
Step three: Bake the cookies
Pre-heat oven to 350 degree F.

Transfer the kaak abbas to the baking sheet lined with parchment paer and bake for 15 minutes or until golden.
Broil for 5 minutes or until golden . Cool and serve.
